I will drive you through the typical countryside North of Amsterdam. The province is called North Holland.

We start off at the famous cheese market of Alkmaar (every Friday from March 31th- September 29 10 a.m.- 1p.m.). There we meet the cheese carriers with their own traditions and costumes. In the summer there is even a cheese market for children (no parents allowed). Outside this city our next stop is at the windmills of Schermerhorn. You can take some breath-taking pictures of the countryside of Holland. On our way to the next stop we will drive through the Beemsterpolder, reclaimed in 1612 (UNESCO World Heritage). The word picturesque suits this tiny village called De Rijp. Here the streets are really narrow. You will having the experience that the time stood still for 200 years in this old fishermen town.

A twenty minutes’ drive will take us to an another cheese town, Edam. The world famous kind of cheese is made, the Edammer. (Non visiting when we visit the cheese market in Alkmaar). Next to this town is Volendam, a great attraction. The friendly ladies in traditional costumes will welcome you. Here you find many small shops with Dutch products and don’t forget to have a picture of you taken in traditional Dutch costumes! This is a great souvenir to take home. Since Volendam is famous for its fish, maybe this is the time to try a Dutch herring on the famous Dijk?

After lunchtime(not included, but I can give you some tips) we will visit a former island which nowadays is a peninsula, Marken. One look is worth a thousand words. You just have to see it yourself. You can go to Marken, by a ferry from Volendam. I will drive the car up to Marken and meet you in the harbour. Additional cost of a ticket is €8,50 per person. The last stop will be the Zaanse Schans. An absolute must see. Windmills, old farms, cheese and waterfront, all combined in one place.

As your private tour guide, I can adjust the schedule, duration at your needs. Please let me know of any special requests. No entrance-fees are included in the tour price.
